Crystal Cat Litter – No Odor No Fuss
Crystal cat litter is made from biodegradable silica sand and comes in either irregularly shaped crystals or in
beaded form. It is the favorite type of cat litter for many cat owners. Its main advantage over other cat litters
is that crystal cat litter absorbs any type of moisture almost immediately, resulting in virtually no overpowering
cat urine smell or cat feces odor.
In fact, the crystals actually dehydrate the feces, eliminating the aroma. Crystal cat litter was first
introduced about ten years ago, and today almost every cat litter manufacturer has its own brand.
Another great advantage of crystal cat litter is that the owner only needs to change the litter about once per
month per cat, far less frequently than other types of cat litter. The only maintenance up to one month is to
periodically scoop out the dehydrated feces and stir the litter, while occasionally adding some fresh crystals.
This allows a balance in the litter box so all the crystal cat litter in the box reaches its maximum absorbency
at approximately the same time. Once the crystals are no longer soaking up moisture, simply replace the
crystals.
Another advantage of crystal cat litter is that cats like it. As any cat owner knows, this is of the utmost
importance. Some reviewers claim that cats even spend time in the box just scratching around for fun!
Crystal cat litter is also often lightly scented and produces far less dust than clumping litter. This results
in a much cleaner experience for the cat owner. Thus, crystal cat litter does not look and feel like wet sand after
it has been used. It is also much easier to clean up when it has spilled out of the box and of course, it is
non-toxic.
Many cat litters stick to a cats paws after it exits the box, resulting in tracking, and a mess for the owner
where the litter ends up all over the house. However, this occurs far less with crystal cat litter. Some
manufacturers even have specially designed “low track” crystal cat litter.
The kitty litter box is essential to a cats urinary tract health. A cat needs to be happy with its bathroom and
refusing to use a litter box is one of the most common reasons for cats to be given up to a shelter.
Often, however, it is the owner who needs to adjust the location of the box, the box itself, or the litter so
the cat has a safe, healthy place to do its business. A cat’s sense of smell is far more sensitive than a human’s,
so it is natural for a cat to be particular about its litter box.
Crystal cat litter is undoubtedly the most convenient cat litter for humans. It is usually slightly more
expensive than traditional cat litters, but it also lasts far longer. As cat owners know, every cat is an
individual, with its own particular likes and dislikes.
It is perfectly normal for a cat owner to experiment with different types of cat litters to see what works
best for the owner and for the cat. If your cat likes to use crystal cat litter, cleaning and odor control will be
much easier for you.
